SHEƎI (2023)
SHEƎI, pronounce as “she”. The name was a visual expression of the concept of extension beyond the female body. The second E was written as a turned E, forming the Chinese character 旧 jiu (meaning old, former, past and used) when viewed upside down. Ruth attempts to discuss and express the empowering of the female body in this series.
In this collection, she seeks to discuss those trends in the past and present, making that garment an extension of their body, empowering the body. By adapting and improving those fashion trends in this series, the models wearing them expose their vulnerability but also use their bodies as a voice. Its grand aim is to give new meaning to the old garments. Use the garment as a means to empower instead of suppress, and have control of what we want to wear.
